Leslie Blakey is a principal with Blakey & Agnew, LLC (formerly Blakey & Associates), a subsidiary of the government relations firm Chambers, Conlon & Hartwell. Blakey & Agnew is a public affairs and communications firm specializing in transportation with expertise in developing communications strategies that make complex regulatory, engineering, and legal issues more easily understood by broader audiences.
She is executive director of the Coalition for America’s Gateways and Trade Corridors, which is dedicated to the expansion and modernization of America’s freight and goods movement infrastructure. Its members include leading transportation associations, major ports, trade corridors, state and local government agencies, and individual rail, trucking, and engineering companies. The success of this initiative has resulted in a four-fold increase in federal funding for goods movement infrastructure in the surface transportation reauthorization bill, recently passed by Congress.
Recently, she has helped introduce the concept of air-rail integration to improve capacity and throughput at U.S. airports. Other work she has managed includes traffic safety advocacy, positioning a U.S. Fortune 500 company to foreign markets and European and Asian companies to the U.S. market. Previous experience includes aiding the development of a communications strategy to announce a major medical development by an Italian company to the worldwide scientific community and establishing the significance of the related medical patents to U.S. financial markets.
She has testified before various government agencies and addressed transportation issues to a wide variety of groups, including the Transportation Research Board of the National Academy of Sciences, the Intelligent Transportation Society of America, and the International Association of Chiefs of Police. She also serves on the Executive Steering Committee of the Mobility 21 Coalition of the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce, as well as holding leadership positions with various community groups and civic organizations in her hometown of Washington, D.C.
Leslie began her association with Blakey & Associates in 1997, when she joined her sister, Marion C. Blakey, now Administrator of the Federal Aviation Administration, to conduct a large-scale survey of government agencies in America. Leslie holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology and a Master of Science degree in Public Administration, with a major in Economics, from Florida State University. Leslie is fluent in French and also holds a degree from the Lycee Hoteliere de Strasbourg in France.
